Review: Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar

Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar:

This is an over-the-counter acne treatment cleansing bar that contains salicylic acid. It's designed for normal to oily, acne-prone skin.

Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar can be used to treat mild acne and blackheads, or as part of your acne treatment skin care routine. (If your treatment routine consists of prescription acne medications, though, you should talk with your dermatologist before trying this cleansing bar.)

This cleansing bar won't clear up moderate acne breakouts or severe acne.

Active Ingredient:

Salicylic acid 0.5%

Where You Can Get It:

Aveeno products are found at most drug stores and big box stores like Walmart and Target. I actually got mine at the grocery store, so check there too.

  • The hard bar lasts a long time (provided you keep it in a dry soap dish).
  • It's deeply cleansing and removes all excess oil.
  • Your skin feels super soft after use.

    • The fragrance is very strong.
    • It can be quite drying.
    • It probably won't clear anything but the mildest acne breakouts.

Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar Guide Review:

Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar was an impulse by in the grocery store. I love cleansing bars and I love anything "natural" (even though this cleansing bar is anything but).

I know a lot of people shy away from using bar soap on their face, but so long as you choose the right bar you needn't worry. Sure, some bars are best relegated to the body. But many are designed especially for the more delicate skin on the face, like this product is.

I've used many Aveeno products in the past, so I was curious to see how this bar stacked up. I wrangled up a few people to help me review (OK, I begged) because I wanted to get as many opinions as possible.

The first thing that hit me coming out of the box was the fragrance. It sure packs a punch. The scent itself is actually nice, clean and sweet smelling. It's just overwhelming and much too strong for my taste.

Intense fragrance aside, there was plenty about this cleansing bar that I liked. First, the bar is extremely hard and long lasting (just don't leave it in a wet soap dish; it'll melt.) The lather is also very nice. It's smooth, creamy, and feels so silky on the skin.

Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar definitely leaves the skin feeling clean.

If you have problems with oily skin, you're going to love the way this bar cleanses away excess oil and makes your skin feel refreshed.

Every one of my reviewers commented on how soft their skin felt after use, and I completely agree. The skin just feels super soft, super clean and super smooth.

We also agreed that it's fairly gentle. It doesn't burn or sting the skin.

But this bar is so drying! If your skin is especially oily, Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar will be a great fit. Otherwise, get a moisturizer and start using it. You'll need it.

As far as for how it works against breakouts, I'd say it's fairly weak. Salicylic acid, while OK for mild breakouts and blackheads, isn't the most effective acne treatment there is. If you tend to get more inflammatory pimples and papules, you'll probably get better results with a benzoyl peroxide product than with this bar. You can find benzoyl peroxide cleansing bars at the drugstore, too. Panoxyl and Zapzyt are brands that are easily found.

Still, Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Cleansing Bar might be a good addition to your skin care routine. It's a really great choice for oily skin. It'd make a good body bar too, especially if you have problems with oily chest, back and shoulders.

But if your skin isn't oily, or if it's already parched thanks to drying acne treatments, this bar will only strip your skin even more.
