Before You Buy Benadryl

Benadryl is an antihistamine that is available over the counter. It is very effective at treating symptoms of the common cold and allergies such as runny nose, sneezing and itching. Benadryl is also used to treat allergic reactions. However, it tends to make people very drowsy.

Active Ingredients in Benadryl

In each tablet:
Diphenhydramine HCl 25mg

    Dosage and Directions

    Adults and children over 12 years old:

    • 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 6 doses in 24 hours

    Children 6 to 12 years old:

    • 12.5mg (1 Children's tablet) to 25mg (1 Adult tablet), not to exceed 6 doses in 24 hours

    Children under 6 years old:

    • Ask a doctor

    Swallow whole, do not crush, chew or break.

      Benadryl Uses

      Helps relieve:
      Symptoms of allergies and the common cold including

      • Runny nose
      • Sneezing
      • Itchy, watery eyes
      • Itching of the nose and throat

        Side Effects of Benadryl

        Diphenhydramine may cause:

        • Marked drowsiness
        • Excitability, especially in children

          Benadryl Warnings

          Do not use with any other products containing Diphenhydramine, even those used on the skin.

          Avoid alcoholic drinks while taking Benadryl. Alcohol, sedatives and tranquilizers will increase drowsiness.

          Do not drive or operate machinery while taking this medication until you know how it will affect you.

          Keep out of reach of children.

          In case of overdose, contact Poison Control or go to an Emergency Room immediately.

            Ask a Doctor Before use if

            • You have Glaucoma
            • You have breathing problems, such as Emphysema or Chronic Bronchitis
            • You have trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland
            • You are taking sedatives or tranquilizers
            • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
