It used to be that if you wanted to contact Santa Claus before he came down the chimney at your house on Christmas Eve to leave presents under the tree and to fill the stockings (with care!), you had to head to your local mall or superstore, wait on line, and then sit on his lap (and maybe take a picture or two). It was only then that you could interact with the big guy in red, telling him what exactly you wanted to Christmas and why you deserved it.

Sure, you could send a letter, but the chances of you hearing something back were small.

These days however, it is a lot easier to contact Santa Claus, whether it is by email or phone or even Skype! If your preschooler wants to reach out Saint Nicholas, here are some great ways to do just that and you don't even have to leave your living room:

  1. Portable North Pole: Through the magic of the PNP app, kids can receive their very own, customized video from Santa Claus himself. With a little bit of help from the elves (mom, dad, or a relative), your preschooler will get via email a video of Santa talking directly to them about what they can work on, what they are doing well, what they asked for for Christmas, and finally if they were naughty or nice! The basic video is free, various upgrades are available for a charge. Additionally, Santa can reach out to your child on their birthday as well.
  2. iCaughtSanta: Upload a photo of any room in your house to the iCaughtSanta website and you'll be able to add the jolly guy in red as proof that he was there. Some images are free while others have a charge. Depending on the time of year, you can also "catch" the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny in action as well!
  1. NORAD Tracks Santa: The good folks at the North American Aerospace Defense Command have been tracking Santa Claus and his journey every Christmas Eve since 1955, thanks to a typo in a newspaper ad. Since then, following Santa has gotten very hi-tech, with a website that offers your preschooler just about every way possible to get in touch with St. Nick.
  1. emailSanta: A free site with lots of bells and whistles, emailSanta lets kids see if they are on the naughty or nice list, see how many gifts have been made by the elves this holiday season, view a Santa webcam, play trivia games, and much more!
  2. Video Chat with Santa (app): So what if you can't get to the mall or it's bedtime and your little one has just one more thing that they want to tell the world's most jolly elf? With the Video Chat with Santa app, they can! Made to look like a FaceTime call, the app has a naughty, nice, and voicemail option. There is a one-time charge associated with downloading the app
