Bob Harper Skinny Rules Workout

Looking for a really effective and fast workout? The Bob Harper Skinny Rules Workout might be it. The 3-DVD set provides cardio, strength and core workouts that will boost your metabolism, burn fat and calories. But you have to follow Bob's expert instructions and use the Bob Harper Skinny Rules calendar if you really want to see results.

Short Workouts With Big Results

The best thing about the Skinny Rules workouts is their simplicity.

Each workout involves only two to three whole body exercises. At the start of each workout, Bob Harper breaks down each movement and provides expert cues for good form and safety. Modifications are provided for most exercises.

After the introduction, you put the movements together into a short, intense exercise segment that lasts about 15 minutes. The sessions are called Workout of the Day (WOD) and are similar in style to a Crossfit or bootcamp style workout. You can expect to work extremely hard, burn more calories, and feel exhausted at the end of each segment.

There is no complex choreography or fancy footwork to follow. In my opinion, this is key to the Skinny Rules Workout success. Sometimes, exercisers spend too much mental energy trying to figure out complex steps and not enough physical energy burning fat. There is no chance of that happening with these tough but straightforward moves.

Great Workouts for Home and Travel

The other thing that I really like about the Bob Harper Skinny Rules Workout is that it requires very little equipment and a very small space. These workouts can be done in a hotel room or in your living room. You will, however, need a set of dumbbells, and as your fitness level increases, you’ll need to invest in heavier weights.

Because the workouts are short, they also make great on-the-go exercise alternatives. Even without the weights, you can get a solid, fat burning session completed in 15 minutes or less if you are on the road for work or visiting friends or family.  You can even carry the Skinny Rules calendar with you to track your progress and make sure you complete all of the workouts required

Skinny Rules Workout Safety

I would not necessarily recommend the workouts for people who are obese, have certain medical issues or joint problems. Some of the moves carry a higher risk of injury and, as a general rule, may be too difficult for some exercisers. In addition, there are a few exercises, like the burpee, that may be too uncomfortable for larger bodies to do effectively. Those exercisers may benefit from doing workouts designed specifically for overweight people.

I asked Bob about my concern and he felt that the workouts should work as long as you check with your physician first. He points to the fact that exercisers can work at their own level.

"With any type of exercise program,” he said, “you should always consult your doctor first, but this program is made for everybody. All of the moves have modifications and you can scale it to whatever level of fitness you are at."

Lastly, if you’re thinking about investing in a new fitness program remember that DVDs in general don’t always provide the best workout solution. Working out at home doesn’t always work for people who need a lot of encouragement to exercise. Solo workouts require a special kind of discipline and some people do better in a social environment where there is some level of accountability and interaction.

Bottom Line: Should You Buy Bob Harper Skinny Rules Workout?

If you are in good general health, you’re disciplined enough to workout at home, and you are willing to work hard to lose fat, this is a program that I’d recommend. Bob Harper provides excellent guidance and helpful advice throughout the workouts. The whole plan is exceptionally easy to follow and takes advantage of the high intensity exercise training that most researchers now recommend for effective fat loss.

If you are not sure that you are healthy enough for vigorous activity, speak to your doctor before you invest in the DVDs. Your doctor may recommend that you work with a fitness trainer who can provide one-on-one guidance and support.
