Brian Carmody has seventeen years of professional experience working in healthcare in various capacities. The fact that he has been on both the hospital-owner side, as well as the consultant and vendor side of the equation, has contributed to his broad perspective.
As a Lieutenant and Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, Brian trained for the delivery of medical care and supplies within the chaos of a battlefield, as well as within the structured organization of a military medical center. Part of his Army Medical Service included over three years at Tripler Army Medical Center, the only federal tertiary care hospital in the Pacific Basin. Tripler supports hundreds of thousands of local active duty and retired military personnel, their families, and veterans. Tripler also has a referral population that includes a few hundred thousand military personnel, family members, veterans, residents of nine U.S. affiliated jurisdictions (American Samoa, Guam, and the former Trust Territories), and forward-deployed forces in more than 40 countries throughout the Pacific. While at Tripler, Brian facilitated the first Sentinel Event Root Cause Analysis within the Department of Defense's Health System.
After his Active Duty service ended, Brian has worked in the pharmaceutical industry and in the healthcare furniture, equipment, and supply distribution industry. He has recently opened a ground-breaking new showroom in the Boston Design Center. His vision for the showroom is to create a dynamic space where equipment planners, architects, designers, and facility managers can workshop ideas, test workflow mock-ups, and learn more about how evidence-based healthcare design and medical equipment planning can improve patient care.
I hope to create a site that medical equipment planners, facility managers, healthcare architects and designers, medical equipment manufacturers, healthcare administrators, purchasing agents, nurses, physicians, surgeons, and other allied health specialists will find to be a useful resource. I plan to fill the site with articles, blogs, and links that will inspire cooperative project planning and management, as well as broadening people's perspectives on new technology for the medical field. I will also keep tabs on the various hot issues that materials managers are challenged with on a daily basis, and will post ideas to encourage solutions.
