How many calories do you burn per day? What should your calorie target be to lose weight? These are two key answers you need when you want to lose weight. These numbers will vary based on your age, gender, height, weight, and activity level.

Calories Per Day Calculator Charts

These adult daily calorie calculator charts give an approximation of the calories per day burned by a moderately-active person.

The calculations are based on the newer Mifflin-St. Jeor equation for your basal metabolic rate, a measure of the calories you burn at rest. Then a factor is added for the calories you burn in moderate activity. The level expected here is for someone who was logging 10,000 steps per day most days on her pedometer, or getting 30-60 minutes per day of exercise. This meets the minimum activity goals set by most health authorities.

The calorie number shown are the number you could eat per day to maintain your current weight. If your goal is to lose weight by burning off excess body fat, aim to eat 300 to 500 fewer calories per day than your daily caloric needs shown below, and maintain or increase your exercise activity. If you are sedentary, getting no exercise and fewer than 3000 steps per day on your pedometer, you would burn 300 to 400 fewer calories per day than what is shown.

When you are dieting, do not go below 1200 calories per day unless you are on a medically supervised weight loss program or after consultation with your doctor.
