The Pros of Using Chantix

"I set a quit date - 2 weeks from when I started Chantix.

By the end of the first week, I was smoking about one-third of my normal intake. I just didn't think about smoking. By the end of 2 weeks, I was able to choose to not smoke! Unbelievably, cigarettes just tasted awful, there was no pleasure in even smoking one - just YUK!" ~Renee~

"From a 40-year smoker...There is a seven-day ramp-up with the meds; you can smoke during that time period. On day seven, I smoked my last cigarette. I have been smoke-free for a week now! I have not suffered the "heebie-jeebies" this time as I have in the past. The biggest problem I deal with, and on a scale of 1 to 100 it is only a 5, is fighting the ritual of having a smoke when waking up in the a.m., driving, breaks, etc. I know I'm going to succeed this time." ~David~

"I have been using Chantix for 2 months. I have slipped and smoked a couple times, but the cigarettes tasted terrible! I'm finally learning to cope without cigarettes in my life.

There are so many good things to turn to other than nicotine. Chantix has been a miracle for me." ~JJ~

"Day one through seven, I said this is NOT going to work. On day eight, I didn't want to smoke. Wow, I could not believe I wasn't screaming at everyone. I have been smoke-free for three weeks now and am so excited about this medication." ~Rena~

"This is my 10th day on Chantix, and it really seems to be doing the trick for me. I've "quit" at least a dozen times before, and never made it past 48 hours without nicotine. It's not making it easy, by any means, but it IS making the cravings bearable and not as frequent. And I do agree that you really have to want to quit. If you don't, then nothing is going to work. I also think that everyone is different, and everybody has to find what works for them." ~Teri~

The Cons of Chantix Therapy

"Chantix is a wonderful drug for me. I have had nausea, however, it's nothing that would make me stop taking it. One thing that I've noticed though is you can't depend solely on this medication to do all the work. It really helps you but you still have to want this for 'you'." ~Shari~

"I have to agree with the others that there are some side effects (nausea right after taking the pill that lasts for a few minutes) but nothing to the point where I would stop taking it." ~Jennifer~

"The only side effect is feeling sick for a few minutes right after I take it.

The feeling goes away quick so I can handle it. Also, I'm dreaming like never before. No nightmares, just dreams that are so real I have to think twice to make sure they didn't really happen." ~JJ~

"I have been using Chantix with very good results. I did have some nausea at first but it passed quickly. I have also had some craves that may last 10-15 seconds. After today I'm not really sure it's cigarettes I am craving. I had a visitor who sat within 3 feet of me and smoked and I didn't even want a cigarette, so maybe its not a cigarette I want. Maybe something else, like a breath of fresh air or a mint...I wish I knew. All I know is that I smoked for 51 years and now I don't." ~lijale~

"I was using Chantix, but I discontinued. I went 3 weeks on 3 hours of sleep per night. This is not good! I do have to say that while I was taking it, and for many days after I stopped taking it, I did not have severe cravings for cigarettes, but during the same period of time, I did not have a restful night of sleep." ~Mike~
