Okay, I admit that I am little obsessive when I come across new products that help make contraception use even easier.  So you can only imagine how ecstatic I become when I stumble upon cool birth control apps or even when birth control manufacturers find clever ways to bring awareness to contraception—in what I like to call "modern day birth control."

Why Contraception Reminders Are Important:

One of the main reasons why contraception fails is because it is not being used correctly—this is especially the case when it comes to hormonal birth control methods.

Because the hormones (either estrogen and progestin or just progestin) in these methods stop you from ovulating, it is so important that you remember to take them on time. It breaks my heart when I hear stories of women who have chosen to be responsible by using birth control... only to end up getting pregnant because they forgot to take their contraception (or did not use it at the correct time).

So, this is where apps (like one of my favorites) Bedsider Reminders, enter the picture. This app is designed to send you contraception reminders. Unlike many birth control apps, these reminders are incredibly cheeky, fun, and entertaining. The messages are so cute and sassy that you will actually look forward to receiving them. You also get to set the time that the contraception reminders come, and the app is so easy to use. But, I have to admit, this is not even the best part! Most contraception reminder programs are designed for you gals who use the pill.

Bedsider ALSO offers contraception reminders created to prompt you to switch your NuvaRing each month, replace your patch each week or even when it is time for your next Depo Provera injection (every 3 months). You can also schedule reminders for doctor's appointments as well as when it is time to get your refills.

Even more, Bedsider's  website can help you locate family planning clinics in your area as well as help you find emergency contraception—just incase.

And get this... there is even a SNOOZE feature! Who doesn't appreciate the snooze option every morning when the alarm clock goes off? Based on statistics, such as 13 percent of pill failure is due to women missing a pill because they are not home when it's time to take it, Bedsider came up with this helpful feature. If you are unable to take your pill (or replace your patch or NuvaRing) when your birth control reminder comes, the snooze option will send it again in an hour, 30 minutes, or 15 minutes (you set the snooze time). You can snooze your reminder for up to 6 hours. This way, you can get reminded again once you get home. And, just incase you exceed Bedsider's "6-hour safe reminder window," you will receive a message encouraging you to use a back-up birth control method because your contraception's effectiveness may have been compromised.

Sounds pretty cool—huh? If you go to Bedsider's website, it will show you how you can download their FREE reminder app. And, don't worry—if you find these cheeky reminders to be embarrassing, the app also have the option for you to forego the racier, sexy contraception reminders and receive custom messages or more discreet ones that do not mention your contraceptive method or even use the phrase birth control. No more excuses, y'all!
