What you’ll learn in this lesson:

  • What positions are good for baby making
  • If there’s a “best position” for baby making
  • If lying on your back or raising your hips really matters

Positions for Baby Making

The only position for making a baby is the missionary position, right?

Wrong!

While many people believe that to be so, you can actually get pregnant with any position that leads to sperm near the cervix (or vagina, for that matter.)

Using a variety of positions for conception sex can help spice things up, so take a look at this list of potential baby making positions.

Is There a Best Position?

Now you know that the missionary position is not the only one that can lead to conception. But could it be the best?

The answer is maybe.

Little research has been done on this question, though there has been research on IUI treatment that may relate to sexual position.

Learn more about the research here, and what it may mean for sexual position and getting pregnant.

One more interesting tidbit on this topic: The best position may be the one that brings you the most pleasure.

More on that in tomorrow's lesson, but research says that arousal may play a role in the conception process.

Does Lying on Your Back Really Matter?

Who hasn’t heard or been told to put a pillow under your hips after sex and lie on your back? The question is, does it matter?

The answer is maybe.

Read this article on lying down after sex to learn more.

Some women worry about getting a urinary tract infection if they don’t get up to use the bathroom right after sex.

If this is a concern for you, keep in mind that lying still for just five minutes is probably not going to hurt.

Also, if you need to use the bathroom right away, it’s unlikely to keep you from getting pregnant. Do what feels most comfortable for you.

Homework for Today’s Lesson:

Check out the list of possible baby making positions. Consider if you and your partner may be up for some experimenting. Have fun!

Remember that you should only do what is comfortable for both of you.

Of course, if things don’t work out well, you can revert to your tried and true position(s).
