Do You Know These 10 Famous People With ADHD?

Many athletes, musicians, actors, comedians and TV personalities have all been open about having ADHD. Here are 3 reasons why this is helpful.

1) Promotes ADHD Awareness

When a person is in the media spotlight, they are in a unique position to spread awareness about ADHD. Some famous people have participated in formal awareness campaigns, like  Adam Levine and Howie Mandel. Others are happy to talk about their ADHD symptoms on talk shows, podcasts or in print media.

Increased awareness helps to debunk myths about the ADHD, for example that only children can have ADHD or that only males can have it.  ADHD is a complex and misunderstood health condition and by talking about their personal experience, celebrities  help to increase the public's knowledge. In addition, people living with undiagnosed ADHD might be  prompted to seek help.

2)  Reduces Stigma

ADHD is a neuro-developmental disorder, and like other mental health conditions there can be a stigma attached to it.  By being open and honest about their condition, famous people help to reduce this stigma and normalize it.  This in turn helps  individuals living with ADHD to embrace their ADHD rather than feel ashamed, embarrassed or guilty about it.

3) Provides Hope

It can be a lonely and isolating experience having ADHD.  Just knowing that there are other people in the world (even ones you have not met in person) who have the condition too provides hope.

It can be particularly helpful to children with ADHD to know that someone they admire has experienced the same struggles as they do. You might not want to be a popstar, but seeing people with ADHD achieve success, is inspirational as it means you can succeed in your chosen field too.
