Gender-Neutral Birthday Party Favors for Toddlers

Not sure what to pass out at your toddlers party? Read on.

Plenty of parents are throwing birthday parties for their toddlers these days, complete with goodies for the littlest guests to take home. But party favors can easily become an afterthought, leaving mom and dad to scramble at the last minute and pick up whatever is available at the local dollar store. But it doesn't have to be that way!

Whether you want to buy something or find an easy DIY project, favors for young children should follow the same guidelines parent use to buy regular toddler toys -- make sure they are non-toxic and stay away from tiny parts and pieces that could be choking hazards. Keep it simple with these six gender-neutral ideas.

Whether your toddler's birthday is in the spring, summer, fall, or winter, you can give your pint-sized guests a fun, seasonal party favor to play with. In the summer, try sunglasses. For fall, give away spider rings for birthdays that are scheduled near Halloween. In the winter, kids will love toy penguin miniature figurines and you'll avoid any ties to the December holidays. For spring, when the weather is warming up, give mini-bubbles -- perfect for playing with outside.

Train Whistles and Conductor Hats

All aboard! Toddlers – both girls and boys – are typically fascinated by trains. If your little one is train-obsessed and you’re considering a train-themed birthday party, train whistles or conductor hats are a great takeaway for your toddler's party guests. Superhero Masks

It's a bird... it's a plane... it's your toddler's birthday party! Does your Super Girl or Super Guy want a hero-themed party? Toddlers will love playing dress up with superhero masks (you can also do capes if you have a smaller crowd) that will provide hours of make believe fun at home too. Y

A story book as a favor typically has more staying power than small toys that will easily be lost once home. You can also find packs of coloring books for a party favor that

Edible favors

Sometimes the easiest way to ensure you’re not wasting your money on favors that will be quickly lost or broken is to give toddlers something they can eat. Customized cookies and other treats are a no brainer if you want to stay on theme, but there are plenty of more cost effective, but still fun (and yummy) options. Really toddlers aren't too picky when it comes to treats -- think crackers or gummy treats in multiple colors or in the shapes of animals.

Homemade Crayons and Art Supplies

If you're looking for a simple DIY favor for toddlers, look no further than DIY crayons. This tutorial is quick and easy -- you can make your crayons in whatever molds you like -- circles, hearts, stars. Art supplies in general make for great toddler birthday party favors. If you're not up for making your own crayons, you can buy crayons at the store for your guests. Another toddler hit? Playdough, which comes in small containers perfect for giveaways.
