Gift Ideas for the Active Men in Your Life

If there's an active man in your life, you'll need the perfect gift for the holidays. If he's into exercise, why not give him something that will make his workouts better?

If he's like my husband, he doesn't like to spend money on exercisey things, but he loves to get exercisey things. He always needs things like clothes to keep him warm and dry when it's snowing outside or gadgets to help him track his progress.

I've put together some of my favorite fitness gift ideas for the active man in your life. Whether he's a gadget freak or he just likes to stay warm when he's out in the cold, you'll find something for the exerciser in your life.

What could be more manly than this big, boxy sports watch? And trust me when I say it's big, although it seems like cuff-like watches are all the rage these days. This one is a great gift for the gadget-loving exerciser. It tracks time, distance, heart rate (if you get the sensor that goes with it), pace and calories burned, and he can view a map of his route at Nikeplus.com. It's pricey, but all the extras are very cool.

If the Nike+ listed above is a little too much for your exerciser, he might like something a little simpler, like the Fitbit Force. It's worn as a wristband and tracks steps, distance, calories, floors climbed, active minutes and it will even track his sleep patterns if he so desires. It's also much smaller and a little less flashy than the sports watch shown above, which may work for the understated exerciser.

Anyone who uses headphones during exercise has gotten tangled up in that darned cord...which is what makes these wireless headphones so awesome. The sound is amazing, they're a breeze to set up and, once he figures out the proper way to plug them into his ears, he'll love them. This is a great stocking stuffer for any music-loving exerciser.

When it comes to clothing that stands up to chilly weather, nobody does it better than Saucony and this jacket is no exception. Made of moisture-wicking, breathable fabric, it's also lightweight and has reflective details for exercising at night or early in the morning. A great overall top for any outdoor workout.

Whenever it snows, I try to make my husband shovel all the snow off our driveway. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but it helps that he has a pair of these Windstopper gloves to deal with the 10-below temperatures. They really are the best gloves we've found for exercising or working out in very cold weather. They're filled with warm fleece and the elastic wristband keeps out the cold. If the man in your life needs to update his cold-weather wardrobe, this is a great stocking stuffer.

This advanced, some would say killer, workout series certainly isn't for every guy. However, if he's really into exercise and he loves a challenge, he might like these very advanced workouts. The series includes 12 different workout DVDs with everything from strength training and plyometrics to yoga and stretching. This is also a good choice for cold weather months when outdoor workouts may not always be possible.

P90X2

If he's finished the first P90X, P90X2 offers a completely different way of working out than the first installment. There's much more emphasis on core strength and includes lots of interesting and advanced exercises that will challenge even the most hardcore exerciser.
