Halloween means fun decorations, awesome costumes, yummy treats, spooky and cute Halloween crafts, and of course, trick-or-treating. And lots of families today host Halloween parties in their homes, which means you're gonna want these fun ideas for Halloween games. Whether it's a neighborhood block party, a school celebration, or a Halloween party at home, these awesome ideas will be a hit with parents and kids alike, and a terrific part of all the Halloween fun!

Pin the Nose on the Jack O' Lantern

What you'll need:

  • white poster board
  • black paper
  • magic markers or crayons (black and orange)
  • reusable adhesive
  • blindfold

How to play:

Draw a big pumpkin on a large piece of poster board (or sheets of paper taped together). Kids can help you color the pumpkin. Draw eyes and a mouth but leave the nose area blank.

Make a triangle jack o'lantern nose with some black paper. Put some reusable adhesive like Fun Tak or Blu Tack on the nose and have kids try to pin the nose on the pumpkin while wearing the blindfold.

To make it more challenging for older kids: Leave the jack o'lantern completely blank and cut out eyes, nose, and a mouth. Have kids try to pin all the parts of the face on the jack o'lantern; it will be hilarious!

Doughnut Eating Contest

What you'll need:

  • doughnuts (or apples)
  • butcher's twine
  • rods or poles (if playing indoors)

How to play:

Tie butcher's twine to a doughnut (one for each child or adult) and then tie the string to a tree branch so that it's reachable for each player--about face-height.

(If you're playing the game indoors, use a rod or pole, making sure you have plenty of space between players so players don't knock into each other.) The goal is to eat as much of the doughnut as you can without using your hands. (Little kids may not eat the whole doughnut, so try to split the players into age groups.)

Wanna make it a bit more challenging for older kids? Use a timer and blindfold them! You can also substitute apples for the doughnuts but you may wanna make the challenge having a few bites since finishing the whole apple on a string will be super-difficult.

Wrap the Mummy

What you'll need:

  • toilet paper or white crepe paper
  • timer

How to play:

Have kids divide up into teams of two. One child will wrap his partner in the paper until he looks like a mummy. (For safety, be sure kids don't wrap their partner's arms to their sides or wrap their faces.) When the timer goes off, everyone will vote to see which mummy looks most mummy-like.

Pass the Pumpkin

What you'll need:

  • small gourds, about the same size

How to play:

This game combines relay racing with alternating moves (which gets kids moving). First, divide kids up into teams. Each team gets a gourd, which they have to pass to each team member in alternating moves--the first player passes the gourd overhead with arms raised over the head, then the next player passes it down between the legs, then the next player passes it overhead, and so on.

The first team to pass the gourd correctly one way and then back up the line wins.

Candy Corn Carry Relay Race

What you'll need:

  • big plastic spoon or ladle
  • candy corn
  • big bowls

How to play:

Here's another fun relay racing game: Divide players into teams (2 or 3, depending on how big your group is; each team should have about 4 or 5 players). Set up a big bowl of candy corn with a spoon for each team on one side of the room. (Make sure you have the same amount of candy corn and the same size spoon or ladle.) On the other side of the room, set up an empty bowl for each team.

The object of the game is to transfer the candy corn from one bowl to the other without spilling as much as possible. The first team to fill up the empty bowl wins.

When the kids are all tired out from these fun Halloween party games, make some popcorn and pop in a great Halloween movie like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
