Ham is the centerpiece of many holiday meals. While it isn't a very high calorie meal choice, there are some ham calorie and nutrition facts that dieters and healthy eaters may want to consider before sit down for the holiday dinner.

Calories in Ham

The calorie count of ham can vary depending on the brand and type that you buy. According to, a single serving of ham is 3 ounces or 84 grams.

There are 170 calories in ham that is spiral sliced and honey glazed. You’ll also get 11 grams of fat. Kirkland brand fares slightly better with 140 calories in a single serving of ham and 7 grams of fat. Hillshire Farms Brown Sugar Spiral ham has a lower calorie count with 120 calories and 7 grams of fat.

It’s usually not the fat or calorie count of ham, however, that makes it hard on your diet. Ham contains a high amount of sodium. For people on the popular DASH diet, a single serving contains almost an entire day’s allowance for sodium. Even if you are not following a diet for hypertension, too much salt can make you gain water weight. Look for lower salt brands of ham (Boar’s Head makes one) or choose another lean meat, such as pork tenderloin for your meal instead.
