Larabar - Energy Bar Review

Gluten-Free Natural Energy Bars

The Larabar is a tasty raw food energy bar whose ingredient list is so short you can't believe it - just fruit, nuts, and a spice or two. Larabar often has a booth at marathon event expos, giving away samples of their energy bars to endurance runners and walkers. I snag as many as they will allow me to make off with. I enjoy them as energy snacks while walking, especially the smaller mini-sized ones.

Larabars have no gluten, no dairy, no soy and no GMOs. The consistency of the bar is excellent - it has no coatings to melt, it's easy to break in half, it doesn't crumble and it's easy to chew. Larabar is really perfect for munching while walking. The taste is fantastic, with no weird flavors from additives. I need to try all of the varieties!

  • Raw food energy bar with natural ingredients
  • No weird off-tastes or bitterness I often find with vitamin-packed energy bars.
  • No preservatives, no added sugars
  • Vegan, kosher, no gluten, no dairy, no soy, non-GMO (verified seal)
  • Great taste and is very satisfying, it was an instant favorite with me.
  • No coating to melt and get messy when carrying it in your pack.
  • Easy to chew but non-crumbly.
  • Fun varieties of pie, cookie and dessert flavors to choose from.
  • Available in mini bar sizes, which I prefer for taking along for a walk. The minis are only 100 calories per bar.

    LÄRABAR Cons

    • Lacks many vitamins. It isn't a meal replacement and should be enjoyed in conjunction with a balanced diet.
    • Nuts and fruit can stick to your teeth, which is annoying while out on a long walk.
    • Check the ingredient list if you are sensitive to nuts.
    • Raw food may have a laxative effect if you eat several Larabars the day before an endurance race.

      Expert Review - LÄRABAR

I am not a slave to whole foods or natural foods, but it's good to find a natural energy bar that tastes great, has all the right qualities for carrying on your walk. is also 100 percent natural, vegan, and has no preservatives.

      Ingredients and Varieties

The Larabar has a short ingredient list - fruit, nuts, and spices for some flavors. No added sweeteners or preservatives, no dairy or gluten or soy or GMOs. Now comes the fun part - the flavor choices - they are a dessert smorgasbord: Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, Pecan Pie, Lemon Bar, Cashew Cookie, Chocolate Coconut, Ginger Snap, Cinnamon Roll, PBJ to name a few.

Larabar also produces the LÄRABAR ÜBER, a nut bar in various trail mix flavors. The LÄRABAR ALT has added protein, but they use pea protein rather than dairy or soy. LÄRABAR Renola is a packet of granola/trail mix rather than a bar.
