In order to follow a low-iodine diet, you'll find it's important to cook for yourself. The good news is low iodine recipes can easily be found or created with a little effort and creativity.

The low iodine recipes below were not created specifically for those on the diet, but are free of forbidden ingredients, such as canned foods, seafood, and dairy.

Find Out Which Foods are Allowed and Prohibited on a Low Iodine Diet

When preparing these recipes, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Always use non-iodized or kosher salt. Iodized salt (and foods made with it) are one of the biggest sources of iodine in the diet. 
  • Remember that you can only have 5 ounces of meat per day.
  • Always use fresh (rather than cured) meat and read the meat packaging label. Avoid meats that contain injected broth and salt.
