When I asked my Facebook community to tell me their top excuse for skipping exercise, what do you think was the number one answer? Nope, not lack of time. That’s what I thought, too. Out of the 800 comments, the overwhelming response was a lack of motivation.

This no-fire-under-the butt, nonexistence drive is keeping people on the couch instead of hitting the gym and getting stronger. If you know me already, you know I’m all about strength on the outside here, but I’m also a huge proponent of inner-strength.

Discovering that determination and purpose deep within is the necessary first step in weight training. You need to have a reason to get out of bed at 6 AM to do a strength circuit, take a TRX class, or swing a kettlebell, or hitting the snooze will be the likely outcome. If you need help finding this inner-voice, a personal mantra is an awesome way to get your insides stirring and motivate you to weight train.

But first, why should you even find the motivation to weight train? Wouldn’t it be easier to find the motivation to get into a nightly walking habit? Truthfully, yes. But, weight training will get you the results you want fast which will, in turn, keep your will to work out up. Plus, a hefty list of health benefits comes along with weight training which include increased muscle mass, revving the metabolism, strengthen bones, improving sleep, and boosting self-esteem.

Ready to get strong?
