My husband is the go-to guy for getting the best outdoors gear. He chose the Marmot Oracle jacket as a lightweight waterproof jacket, suitable for wearing by itself or layering over a vest when the temperatures drop. I love the two-way zipper so I can loosen the fit around the hips for better walking. I prefer the men's version since I wear it over a Camelbak or fanny pack when walking.

Expert Review - Marmot Oracle Jacket

A waterproof, windproof rainjacket is one of my walking essentials. Marmot makes excellent jackets suitable for walking and hiking. I've been wearing a Marmot PreCip and it does the job. But it lacks one thing I really want in a rainjacket - a two-way zipper so I can loosen the fit around the hips for better walking motion. The Marmot Oracle has a two-way zipper and other comfort elements that make it the next step up in a lightweight, packable rainjacket.

In the Hood

I'm an Oregonian, and we are noted for using hooded jackets rather than umbrellas. I never even think to buy a jacket without a hood. The Oracle's hood zips on and off if you are undecided about it. It also rolls up into the collar to get it out of your way when not needed.

Waterproof Comfort

The PreCip Plus finish provides the waterproofing, yet leaves the jacket breathable. The seams are all finished so you won't get leak-through. They have also lined the cuffs and collar with DriClime fabric for more comfort.

Pack Pockets

The pockets are designed so you can access them even while wearing a pack.

The chest pocket is especially handy for small items and your iPod.
