Are your twins' names on the list? 2013 Most Popular Baby Names for Twins

2014 Most Popular Baby Names. @Pamela Prindle Fierro 2014

What are the most popular names for twins? If you are having twins, and trying to choose names for your babies, you may want to consult this list. Every year, the Social Security Administration compiles data and issues a "Most Popular Baby Names" list. The list (as shown below) reflects the frequency of the first names as they appear on applications for Social Security cards in the United States.

In the past, they also issued a list of most popular names for twins. However, after 2011, they no longer include that data as part of their lists. If you are interested in the most popular names for twins in years past, please see this link: Top Baby Names for Twins.

Top 10 Boys Names

The Top Ten Names for Baby Boys in 2013 were: Noah, Liam, Jacob, Mason, William, Ethan, Michael, Alexander, Jayden, and Daniel.

For the first time since 1960, there is a new name on the top of the list for boy names. Michael and Jacob have held the top spot for decades, but this year, Noah led the pack. Did the rising flood waters depicted in the epic movie starring Russell Crowe prompt the rise in popularity? No. In fact, that movie wasn't released until 2014, and the SSA lists are based on data from 2013. The popularity of the boy's name Noah preceded the movie release.

However, the reason behind the popularity of the #2 name -- Liam -- may be easier to trace.

Actor Liam Hemsworth enjoyed great popularity in movies like The Hunger Games and The Last Song and his relationship with Miley Cyrus attracted quite a bit of attention in 2013. By the way, Liam's brother Chris Hemsworth became a dad of twins in 2014. He names his boys Tristan (#97 in popularity) and Sasha (not even on the list as a boy's name).

Top 10 Girls Names

The Top Ten Names for Baby Girls in 2013 were: Sophia, Emma, Olivia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Emily, Abigail, Madison and Elizabeth.

For girls, Sophia has remained a popular choice, holding a spot in the top ten since 2006. Names ending with "a" dominate the top spots in the list, and the top ten choices are virtually unchanged from last year. Isabella fell one spot to #4 and Olivia took its place at #3. Mia rose two places in popularity, from #8 to #6, pushing ahead of Emily and Abigail.
