Review: Neutrogena Skin Clearing Blemish Concealer

Neutrogena has been a skin care staple in my house for years, so I had high hopes for their acne concealer.  Neutrogena Skin Clearing Blemish Concealer is a medicated concealer that contains breakout-fighting salicylic acid.  Because of this, it may help heal your pimples as it conceals them.

This concealer has a pen-like applicator, which I immediately liked.  It made dispensing the product super easy.

Just turn the bottom a click or two and the perfect amount of concealer appears.  The soft, felted tip also makes precisely applying the concealer to the pimple simple.

Unlike thicker, stiffer products, the smooth and creamy consistency of this concealer makes it easy to blend.  But the thinner consistency means it's a little light on coverage.  It won't conceal a super red zit on its own. For that, you'll need to use a green corrector concealer underneath.

Unfortunately, the available color choices for this concealer are extremely lacking -- there are only four choices, and the deepest shade offered is medium.  This leaves out many women who won't find a matching shade for their skin tone.

Although this is a medicated concealer, don't expect it to clear up your skin.  Medicated makeup might help individual pimples heal a bit faster, but it won't clear up acne.  For that, you'll need a dedicated acne treatment, either over-the-counter or prescription.

Because it is medicated, though, it may also dry out your skin a bit.  If your skin tends to be on the sensitive side, take that into consideration.

Also keep in mind this concealer is not meant to be used around the eyes, so you'll need a separate undereye concealer.

The price is right, though, at just about $10 per tube.

And since Neutrogena is easily found at most stores, you should have no problem finding this concealer.

  • The soft applicator tip makes for precise application and blending.
  • It has a creamy consistency that blends easily and looks natural.
  • Bargain price!

  • The color options are very limited.
  • Coverage is a little light, so it won't do for very red or dark pimples.

  • Available in shades fair, light, medium, and correcting green
  • Oil-free, noncomedogenic formula
  • Contains .5% salicylic acid

The Bottom Line

This is a decent drugstore blemish concealer for light to medium skin tones.  Darker-complexioned ladies won't be able to find a matching shade, though, and the coverage is a little light.
