Phiaton Wireless Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headphones for Exercisers

If you listen to music while you exercise, you've probably spent a good chunk of your workout time untangling your headphone cords or, even worse, getting your ears yanked off your head when that cord gets caught on something. I once got too close to a car's side mirror and it paid me back by pulling my iPhone out of my pocket and sending it flying. I'm surprised my ears stayed attached.

These days there are any number of wireless headphone options and they keep getting better and better.

They're more streamlined, easier to use and of higher quality and the Phiaton BT100 NC Headphones are no exception. These aren't like other headphones which, well, usually fit around your head. These actually fit around your neck, making them unusually comfortable.

The Specs

The major things I look for in wireless headphones include comfort, quality and the ability to control my music and phone calls without a lot of hassle. I also want to be able to pair the headphones with my phone without having an engineering degree.

Luckily the BT100 NC meets those needs and more. Other important features:

  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Active Noise Cancelling technology. Their numbers say they cancel noise by up to 95%, a plus for when you're in a noisy gym. I could only barely hear the woman next to me who was doing a whole cell-yell call right from her elliptical.
  • Sweat and Water Resistant, IPX4 splash resistance certified. That means you get protection when you're sweating a lot or even if you're out in light rain.
  • Vibration Notification - It signals when you're getting a call or you're getting too far out of range.
  • Everplay-X technology - Now this is cool. It comes with a cord that allows you to continue calling or listening to your music, even if the battery runs out or your audio device is not Bluetooth compatible.

The housing unit for the earbuds is very light, fitting around your neck while the ear buds easily reach your ears. All of the controls are right at your fingertips to answer a call, fast forward through a song or turn the volume up and down. It takes a little time to figure out where all the buttons are (I accidentally called my husband when I thought I was playing a song), but once you do, it's a snap to use.

Another great feature is the ability to turn the noise canceling off. Doing so, of course, lets you hear noises around you but it also increases battery life. With noise canceling on, you get about 7.5 hours of play time. With it off, you get up to 12 hours.

    • Easy to use: The Phiaton BT100 NC are so easy to use, I didn't even have to read the instructions, although I did check them when I was first pairing my headphones with my phone.
    • Good sound quality: The sound is crisp, clear and much better than some of the other wireless headphones I've used.
    • Neck-set controls: I love that you can do so many things right from the neck-set, without having to touch your phone. You can play, pause, fast forward, rewind, adjust the volume and, of course, answer phone calls.
    • Awesome technology: I love the noise canceling technology and all the other whooptee-doo features like the Everplay-X and easy-pairing.
    • Light and Comfortable: The neck-set is surprisingly comfortable and is so light, you don't really feel like you're wearing anything at all.
    • Great Price: Wireless bluetooth headphones are usually pretty expensive, but I find the $119 price very reasonable for what you get.

    • Touchy Speaker on Calls: One of the few issues I had with the BT100 was when making phone calls. My husband had a hard time hearing me when I called him. I primarily use these for exercise and, frankly, I don't want to answer during my workout anyway, so that isn't a big deal for me.
    • A Little Shifty: The only other issue I had was when using the Phiaton's during high impact workouts, like running. The neck-set does tend to bounce a little when I'm running, but it stayed put during all of my lower impact activities, like the elliptical.

      Great Buy

Overall, I really like the Phiaton BT 100 NC headphones. They're light, comfortable and they let you handle a lot of different actions without having to stop in the middle of your workout. I also like the unusual configuration of the neck-set - very different and it works great.
