One of the most enjoyable and lovely trails I've experienced in a town or city is the Truckee River Trail through Reno, Nevada. You can take a break from your convention or gambling to amble along the river and enjoy watching people kayak, tube, or body surf through downtown Reno. Or continue along the river for peaceful views of the sparkling river running over rocks and lined by greenery.

Reno's downtown features casinos and hotels. The Truckee River flows through downtown Reno. Take a detour off the trail to visit Virginia Street.

The Truckee River sparkles its way through downtown Reno, Nevada. Here I've accessed the trail from the National Automobile Museum.

The National Automobile Museum at 10 South Lake Street is a wonderful place to visit. You can also ask for the AVA walk box and get a map of two walks and a bike in Reno. The Truckee River Trail walk will take you along the Truckee River for a 6 mile out-and-back walk that is simply delightful. This walk is subject to yearly renewal, it is currently renewed through 2013.

The walk is open museum hours. You can access the trail at any time, although residents recommend avoiding it after dark. The museum has restrooms available for patrons, which can be accessed without paying the museum admission. Be courteous.
