Your fundus (top of the uterus) reaches just above your navel! You are now aware of your baby's movements and may even be able to tell the sleep/wake cycles of your little one. It is important to recognize the signs of premature labor. Premature labor is actually more common in the summer months, thought to be caused by dehydration in some women, so continue drinking lots of water! Call your practitioner if you have any of the signs of premature labor.

Calling sooner can often make a huge difference. The earlier a problem is detected, the more likely you are to be able to stop labor and/or give medications to help mature your baby's lungs should your baby still be born early.

Your baby is almost completely formed in a physical sense. While organs and other structures are present, they aren't quite ready to perform on their own. The last trimester or more is about ensuring all of these systems are ready to go. Your baby is beginning to deposit brown fat on his or her body. The purpose of the brown fat is to retain body heat. Newborns are bad at regulating body temperature at first, but this brown fat helps them do just that.

Babies born at this point have some chances of survival with very special care. They will be in the Intensive Care Unit, probably for many months. A major problem with premature babies is lung development.

S/he weighs in at 1 pounds 5 ounces (595 grams) and 30 centimeters or 11.8 inches total length!

Mom is now visibly pregnant for most everyone to notice. You may feel a swell of pride when talking about her and the new baby. This is a normal feeling, though some partners say it really surprised them.

You may also still not feel like the baby is real, you may have a sense that the baby or pregnancy is something for "later".  The end of pregnancy can feel like it goes a lot faster than the first parts of pregnancy, so work with your partner to think about the future and bonding with your baby before and preparing to continue that after birth.

Baby showers are about individuals and not about checking off a certain box on the baby book's list. This means that no two baby showers are ever alike. Some people are surprised by their baby showers, but most have an idea and get to help with at least the theme picking part or working with the guest list. There is not one right way to have a shower. (Hint: Some mothers skip the baby shower altogether and instead opt for a Blessing Way or Mother Blessing or simply do nothing.)

Twin Tips:

Some practitioners will try to use cervical length to calculate your risk of preterm birth. This is not the standard of care and has "poor predictive value." Ask your doctor how they are screening for preterm labor and birth and what you can do about it in terms of assisting in looking for various signs.
