Freedman and Barnouin say it, in the beginning, they didn't write this book to make friends. While they may not be making friends, they are gathering a following. Skinny Bitch Bun in the Oven is the follow-up to their wildly successful nutrition series, Skinny Bitch. The book dives right into what you need to stop doing drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. I think it's great that the actually spends more time on caffeine than other things that are less common, say cocaine. I also laughed out loud when they called soda liquid Lucifer.

The heart of wanting to eat right is for your baby and they go into great detail about how the foods you eat help or hurt your baby.

But what I thought was really put into perspective was how diet can help stabilize your moods and pregnancy symptoms. This is best evidenced by the fact that they have an entire chapter on sugar, explaining the detrimental effects of sugar.

What will probably shock people the most is the chapter on meat.

Basically, the book says that being a vegan, not consuming any meat, dairy or animal products is the healthiest, environmentally friendly and safest thing for you and baby. While experts agree that a well thought out vegan or vegetarian diet is fine for pregnant women, the meat and dairy mindset is hard to overcome for many.

There are also great tips on finding products that meet their dietary requirements. The meal plans are also beneficial. But I got the most out of learning about organic, conventional and other words bandied about with my food.

I don't want to give away all the good secrets that are shared in the book, but let's just say that there is a lot of information in here that will help you have a healthy pregnancy and baby. Read the whole book and take what you can use, leave the rest. Then you, too, can be a Skinny Bitch.
