Health Benefits of Avipattikar

Although practitioners of ayurvedic medicine have long used avipattikar to enhance digestive health and treat conditions affecting the digestive system, very few scientific studies have tested the formula's effects.

However, one study published in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research in 2013 suggests that avipattikar shows promise in the treatment of peptic ulcers (a condition marked by sores in the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine).

In tests on rats, the study's authors determined that avipattikar helped thwart the development of peptic ulcers by reducing secretion of gastric acid. According to the study's authors, avipattikar's ulcer-fighting effects may be similar to those of ranitidine (a medication commonly used in the treatment of ulcers).

A number of preliminary studies show that some of the herbs found in avipattikar may aid in treatment of certain health conditions. For instance, there's some evidence that amla may help keep cholesterol and blood pressure in check and protect against diabetes, while haritaki may reduce oxidative stress and help treat metabolic syndrome. In addition, ginger appears to ease nausea and may be beneficial for people with chronic pain.

Caveats

Although the safety of long-term or regular use of avipattikar has yet to be tested in clinical trials, there's some concern that certain herbs found in this herbal formula may be harmful for some individuals.

Ginger, for example, may have blood-thinning effects that could aggravate bleeding disorders. Haritaki, meanwhile, may reduce blood sugar and therefore have negative effects when taken in combination with blood-sugar-lowering medications (such as those used in the treatment of diabetes).

It's also important to note that, due to the fact that dietary supplements are largely unregulated, the content of some avipattikar products may differ from what is specified on the product label.

In some cases, an avipattikar product may fail to contain all of the herbs listed on the product label. In other cases, the product may deliver doses that differ from the specified amount for each herb.
