Maternity clothes have gotten a bad reputation. In years past they have been ugly. They have been expensive. And they have been hard to find in your average store. The good news is that this is all changing. Here is what people aren’t talking about in terms of maternity clothes.

1. They are comfy.

Maternity clothes are pretty comfortable. They have been redesigned so that they are not scratchy or constricting.

The materials used are often soft and comfortable. In fact, they are quite nice today, compared to even a few years ago in terms of fashion.

2. You will miss them when it’s time to move on.

Eventually you will have to stop wearing maternity clothes. This might be around your six-week check up. This might be when your maternity clothes fall apart. Or it might be when your last child goes off to kindergarten. Whichever you choose is A okay. Try to figure out what it is that you love about your maternity clothes. Is it the comfortable fabrics? Is it the ease of wardrobe? By identifying what it is you will miss, you will be able to hopefully recreate some of these elements in your new outfits.

3. You don’t need to hurry to them.

Once you find out you are pregnant and have decided to share the good news about your pregnancy, you want to start with the pregnancy experiences. From baby kicks to a burgeoning belly – you want to do it.

This can lead to the rush to wearing maternity clothes before you actually need them. You may actually get tired of wearing the same clothes day in and day out. I usually recommend that you save a few dollars to buy at least one new shirt towards the end of pregnancy. This will give you a new feeling of joy and a spring in your step – it is amazing what a new shirt can do when you feel like you’re wearing the same three things.

4. You don’t need as many as you think you might.

So many people think that they will need to replace, one for one, all of their clothes that they wear on a daily basis. The truth is that you need to have a few key pieces to mix and match, like a capsule wardrobe for the next nine or so months. You can also use some tools to use your old clothes longer, like the maternity belts. This will help you stretch your wardrobe, as well as give you more opportunities to wear the clothes that you do own. This can decrease the number of clothes that you buy.

5. You don’t have to buy maternity clothes.

Your maternity clothes can come from a lot of places, with very few pieces that you buy. This is where you can trade clothes, or borrow clothes from your relatives, your friends, or others. While some people can get away with purchasing nothing, it’s probably more accurate to say that you are going to be able to buy fewer. If you do buy maternity clothes, they are frequently found in less expensive stores today, though the high end is still available.

You can even buy maternity clothes online. So, try to save money where you can.

6. You don’t have to give up fashion.

These days, there is a ton of thought that goes into the design of maternity clothes. The consumers who purchase the clothes have really informed that change. Consumers drive the maternity clothes market and women have demanded amazing looking clothes. The other piece of this is the availability of maternity clothes. No longer do you have to go to a specialty store to purchase these clothes, which can quickly drive up the costs. Today, many stores, even Target, Old Navy, etc. have maternity clothes available.
