Select These Pants Styles for Fitness Walking

I walk in a temperate climate where long pants are needed three seasons of the year. What I look for in a walking pant:

  • Ease of movement
  • Quick-drying and sweat-wicking fabric for rain and perspiration
  • Easy to put on and take off for those restroom stops along the way
  • Either zippered side pockets or no side pockets, to prevent catching my thumbs when I use arm motion
  • Reflective stripes for low light safety
  • Ankle zippers for changing.
  • For travel, you may want convertible pants to wear in variable conditions and simplify your packing list.

These are my all-time favorite walking pants. They are made for a moderate weather range of 40-65F. These pants made from Dryline Light will move with you and help manage moisture. Zippered pockets keep your stuff secure and you won't hook your thumbs by accident. They are available for both men and women. They have reflective ankle zippers, located on the side of the leg where they won't irritate your heel. I've laundered these pants many, many, many times and the pairs I bought 15 years ago are still going strong.

I love the feel of these leggings that come in fun colors and patterns. They are super comfortable but also perform well for fast walking and running. I get lots of great compliments when I wear them for half marathons in cold weather, where a flash of color is the hottest trend for racing. You can see more colors and styles at B-Skinz.

Convertible pants can be just the ticket for long walks or for travel with changeable weather conditions. If your walk starts off cool but heats up, you just zip off the legs and now you have shorts. The Sahara pants come in a lightweight but durable nylon. They convert to shorts with a 7-inch inseam. They also have vertical zippers the length of the zip-off legs, so you don't have to sit and remove your shoes to convert them to shorts. They have lots of pockets -- front, back, and thigh. They come in men's, women's, and child sizes, different lengths, and in plus sizes for women.

Bamboo is the latest high tech sweat-wicking fabric. These pants from tasc Performance are made with their own blend of bamboo and cotton that transports moisture away from your body to keep you dry. In cooler weather, it also regulates temperature to keep you warm. It feels silky and soft. They have pants in both loose and fitted styles. The women's designs have a low to mid-rise. Some of you may be like me and prefer the men's styles. Go ahead, there isn't a zipper or fly to give away that you are cross-dressing.

These low-rise tights are great for fitness walking and running. They have a back zip pocket and reflective details. They have a drawstring waistband and are made of moisture-wicking polyester/spandex.

lucy has great workout gear, including this pant that features zip hand pockets and an interior waistband pocket. They are made of heavyweight stretch nylon. They have a wide, comfortable waistband. They are pull-on with no drawstring at the waistband. They come in sizes XS to XL.

Like the Sporthill Nomad Pant, I love these Sporthill pants. The difference is that this version has open pockets rather than zippered pockets, and leg zippers rather than a plain hem. I prefer zippered pockets so I don't hook my thumbs in them while using arm motion for fitness walking.
