Top Women's Walking Summer Shirts

Stay cool on summer walks with a shirt that breathes and wicks away sweat so you stay dry. Modern wicking fabrics such as CoolMax make the difference. For travel or camping, these shirts dry overnight and are great to take along on a walking vacation.

Under Armour makes shirts such as this short-sleeved Remi shirt in nylon spun to increase the surface area for active cooling when you sweat. It also has ArmourBlock to neutralize odor-causing bacteria and keep your shirt fresh. It is also designed to resist chlorine and salt, so it is beach and pool-ready for after your walk.

This soft, silky shirt is a powerhouse for wicking away sweat and keeping you cool and dry. It's made of a blend of bamboo viscose and cotton that is the up-and-coming miracle fabric. If you're tired of polyester or would rather wear natural fibers rather than fossil fuels, it's a smart switch. Another big factor is that it costs no more than other tech fabric shirts.

My walking buddy Nancy is one of many who swear by Icebreaker summer wool shirts for walking distances including the half marathon. The ultralight merino wool is itch-less and naturally manages moisture. Icebreaker has a variety of styles including crew neck and v-neck.

This simple crew-neck tech shirt comes in a variety of solid and heather colors and sizes XS - XXL via REI's bargain-priced Co-Op line. The soft fabric wicks away moisture and doesn't snag. I bought the sapphire heather shirt for my Camino walk. They look great for workouts, walking tours and treks.

One More Mile has fun designs and slogans on shirts made of soft, sweat-wicking fabric. Unfortunately, they change slogans over time and did away with my favorite, "Walkaholic." If you see one you love, snap it up. At a recent marathon expo I spied this "I Know, I Know, I'm Almost There," which is what everybody tells you in the last mile of a race. Also seen, "I'm not slow, I'm just getting my money's worth from the entry fee," "26.2 miles - what could possibly go wrong?" It's fun just to browse and laugh.
