Once you hit the 9th week of pregnancy, the ultrasound photos that you get have a bit more detail. In addition to the baby's heartbeat, you may also see arm and leg buds. Here are some of those ultrasound photos.

The 3D ultrasounds are pretty interesting at this phase of pregnancy. You can still see everything in one shot, and you are starting to see more detail. That makes it look like a real baby - that's what lots of moms say.

I love it when they give you some descriptions in an ultrasound photo. This 9-week ultrasound shows the spine, the head, and the feet. The round ball by the feet is the yolk sac - not a soccer ball.

Here you can clearly see the baby and the umbilical cord that connects it to the yolk sac. This umbilical cord is so small now, but by the end of pregnancy, it will be over a foot and a half long.

At 9 weeks, your baby is still pretty small. All measurements that are taken are done in what we call crown to rump length (CRL). This is just what it sounds like, the top of your baby's head to it's bottom - that's how we measure to see if your baby is on the growth curve at 9 weeks.

You can see the arm and leg buds on the side of this baby. What you see at this point in gestation depends on many factors, including the quality of the machine, skill of the technician, and your body.

This baby looks like he or she is hanging out on the ceiling. Your baby really doesn't have any concept of top or bottom. While you or I might feel strange floating upside down - your baby is perfectly content.

Here you can see twins at 9 weeks into pregnancy. If you look closely you can see the membrane between the two of them. This is a good thing and means that they are in their own sacs, which is beneficial.

The yolk sac, seen here at 9 weeks, is not the pillow that it appears to be in this photo. This is the precursor to the placenta. You won't see it in ultrasound after the first trimester.

This baby is hanging out, upside down, mind you. You can see the arm buds on the sides of the baby. You can also tell that the head is wider than the rest of the body. The head still is about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the whole baby at this point.
