Valentine's Day Puzzle Piece Heart Craft

Give Your Valentine a Piece of Your Heart

Valentine's Day Puzzle Craft
Give your Valentine a (puzzle) piece of your heart this February 14!. Amanda Rock

There is nothing better and more loving than a homemade craft created by a preschooler. Luckily, Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity to help your preschooler make crafts for all the loved ones in their life.

This Valentine's Day Puzzle Piece Heart Craft can be created in just under 20 minutes (not including drying time), but makes a perfect festive decoration or gift for a special someone. Best of all, it helps you make use of all those incomplete puzzles you might have lying around your playroom!

The best part about this craft is that there is no wrong way to create it. While our craft puts the puzzle pieces inside the middle of the heart, you could use the puzzle pieces on the outside of the heart and put a picture of your preschooler inside. Use any color paper and consider adding stickers, glitter, and other adornments to let your preschooler express herself! Also, remember that this craft is something that your preschooler is making. If a puzzle piece falls outside the line or a letter is written backwards, don't correct it. Enjoy the masterpiece that your little one has made.

While this craft is very easy and fun to make, there is some down time while you wait for the puzzle pieces to dry. To avoid temper tantrums or boredom, consider having something else for your preschooler to do in between while you wait. It is a good idea to let your tiny crafter know that you will be making the craft in steps so she doesn't expect that you'll be making it all at once.

Before you start, make sure you lay out all your supplies ahead of time. If you choose to use paint for this craft, lay down a protective surface on your workspace, and cover your preschooler with a smock. Supplies you'll need:

  • Large piece of paper in any color. Regular paper works fine, but a heavier weight will support the puzzle pieces more
  • Puzzle pieces
  • Glue or Mod Podge
  • Paint brush
  • Markers or crayons
  • Pencil
  • Glitter, Valentine's Day stickers (optional)

Get crafting!:

  1. Draw a large heart in the middle of the piece of paper.
  2. With your preschooler, figure out what you want to say. Our puzzle piece craft says "I Love You to Pieces," but other good sayings include: "It's No Puzzle How Much I Love You, Valentine!" or "Don't Be Puzzled, Valentine! I Love You!" or "You Complete Me Valentine!" Using the crayons or makers, write the saying around the heart. If you think your preschooler is up for it, let them write the letters. Be patient, especially if there are a lot of words.
  3. Using the paint brush and glue, have your preschooler paint glue on to the back of each puzzle piece. Place the pieces inside the heart. Let dry.
  4. (Optional) Use the stickers and glitter to decorate the rest of the page.
  5. Have your preschooler sign and date the back. Hang or give as a gift to your favorite Valentine!
