  • To make your washi tape hearts Mother's Day cards, you will need the following:

  • lightweight white card stock paper (If you don't have white card stock paper, you can use unlined copy paper or construction paper, but the card stock will give your Mother's Day card some weight and make it feel more like a card.)
  • plain, unlined white copy or printer paper
  • washi tapes in a variety of bright colors (I chose a combination of 15 mm. wide and narrower 7 mm. wide washi tapes and used the narrow tapes to make borders and edges for the card and the wider ones to make the hearts.) (NOTE: You can find washi tapes through PriceGrabber or through online retailers like Cutetape.com.)
  • heart-shaped paper punches (choose small or medium-sized punchers that make shapes that are about 3/4" to 1" in diameter)
  • cutting mat
  • X-Acto knife or a similar craft pen knife
  • scissors
  • glue stick or adhesive tape roller

Next, use your thin washi tape to create a border across the top and bottom of your card.

Glue the hearts onto the card.

Use your glue stick or adhesive tape to glue the hearts onto your card. (This step can be especially fun for kids to do since they can decide how they want to arrange the hearts and can glue them on themselves.)

6
Print or write out your Mother's Day message and cut it to put on your card.

Write or print out your Mother's Day message and cut it out. Figure out where you want to position it before transferring it to a cutting mat to put washi tape around it.

7
Put washi tape around the edges of your Mother's Day message.

Transfer your Mother's Day message to a cutting mat. Take a thin washi tape (7 mm. wide) and put it around the strip of paper to create a colorful and pretty border.

8
Trim the ends of the washi tape.

Put tape all around the Mother's Day message and trim the ends of the washi tape to create a neat and finished look. (This part is strictly for grownups only; the craft pen knives are very sharp and should only be used by adults.) You will now be ready to transfer the message to your Mother's Day card.
