While there is no medical specialty focused solely on celiac disease, there are a growing of number hospital-based programs and clinics that are approaching the disorder as a unique discipline.

Many of these programs are operated by a multidisciplinary team of gastroenterologists, internists, pediatricians, nurses, and nutritionists who are highly skilled in the diagnosis and management of celiac disease.

If searching for a qualified specialist, you could do no better than to start at any one of the 25 listed hospitals, each of which has a highly rated, dedicated celiac disease program.

Even if you don't live near one, you should still contact them if only to get referrals to celiac specialists in your area. Ask to be connected to the office of the director of the celiac disease program who will be more likely to have a list of national or regional contacts.

Another great resource is the non-profit Celiac Disease Foundation in Woodland Hills, California (telephone 888-716-1513). Give them a call or use their online directory to find the specialist in your area based on your zip code, city, or state. You can also narrow the search by medical specialty, hospital, and types of insurance plans accepted.
