I may have been the only person on earth who had not heard of Dr. Oz, let alone watched his TV program, when I was given this book by a colleague. After reading You Being Beautiful, written by both Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen, though, I can see why he has become so immensely popular.

The book claims to be "The Owner's Manual to Inner and Outer Beauty," and it is comprehensive enough to be.

It is divided into three sections: Looking Beautiful (all about your outer image), Feeling Beautiful (managing stress, increasing energy, etc.) and Being Beautiful (improving relationships, creating contentment, etc.).

An entire chapter is dedicated to the skin and its care. Although a lot of information was given about how to keep your skin looking younger (which anyone over 30 will appreciate), only a small section concentrated on treating acne. The information given was good, but it is only just the basics.

If you're looking specifically for a book about acne and its treatment, I highly recommend Acne for Dummies by Dr. Herbert Goodheart.

Of course, I knew this isn't solely a skin care book, so it's not like I was really disappointed.  And the information about how the skin functions is invaluable and presented in an easily understandable way.  This section alone makes the book worth reading.

Sprinkled throughout are fun quizzes that help give you insight on how you view yourself, both inside and out. Also included are tons of useful tips, fun factoids and silly but (still informative) side notes.

Truly, there is so much packed in to this book, it is almost a bit overwhelming. Due to the scope, I sometimes felt a bit inundated with information.

I'm sure a second read would be a big help.

And though it's entertaining to read, for me the quirky humor was just the tiniest bit grating. Humor is subjective, though.

All and all, this is a good source of information about all things skin, plus much, much more.

The Bottom Line

A fun read with a huge amount of information to help keep your body looking and feeling healthy and beautiful. This book covers a vast range of topics, from skin and hair care, nutrition, exercise and stress management to creating happiness and contentment in your life (and much more).

Although it isn't strictly a "how-to" for treating acne, it does provide in-depth information on the inner workings of your skin, and gives you a ton of info on proper skin care.
