You've Been Booed! Fun Ideas and Poems

Someone thinks your child is special this Halloween! How to respond.

We've been booed!
So you've been booed? Fun ways to scare it forward this Halloween. Ted Kurihara Photography

It's just after dinner and you hear a flurry of knocking and giggling at your front steps. Curious because you aren't expecting anyone, you open the front door. There you find an assortment of candy and Halloween treats and a letter asking you to do the same thing to someone else. What is all this? Better call your preschooler over to come and see, you've been Booed

Booing people is a fairly new Halloween tradition that lets kids (and grownups) have a little bit of pre-October 31 fun by anonymously surprising friends, family, and neighbors with an assortment of Halloween treats and goodies.

"Booers" sneak up to the "Booees" house, and leave candy, games, signs, and more, wishing them a happy Halloween. The hope is that the Booee will "scare it forward" and Boo someone else (some You've Been Booed poems ask that recipients Boo two other houses) before Halloween. Additionally, some preschools and elementary schools have been getting in on the act, with classrooms booing other classrooms.

For the most part, Booing is an anonymous endeavor -- it's fun to leave friends guessing -- but certainly it's ok if you decide to reveal yourself to your Booee.

Once your house has been booed, consider leaving a sign out that indicates as such so you won't be booed again and then so others can experience the fun too!

How to Boo a Friend:

  • An assortment of candy and treats in fun and colorful containers.
  • A sign or poem explaining the whole concept so your Booee knows what is going on and so they can boo someone else. (Read below for suggested poems you can print out to let your friends and neighbors know that they've been booed.)
  • A sign for your Booee to leave out that says they have already been booed.

Suggested Poems for You've Been Booed

To let your friends know what is going on, you'll need to make a sign. It can be just a simple sign that reads "You've Been Booed!" but it's also fun to include a note or poem too. Here are some suggestions:

You've Been Booed Poem #1

This treat is for you, we hope you enjoy.

The idea is simple, one we hope you employ.

You pass "BOO" along to two other neighbors.

Along with any kind of Halloween favors.

If we all do our part, and spread the good cheer,

By Halloween night it will be very clear,

We're a friendly bunch, we like to share fun

So please do your part to keep "BOO" on the run!

You've Been Booed Poem #2

The air is cool, the season fall,

Soon Halloween will come to all

Ghosts and goblins, spooks galore

And tricky witches at your door.

The spooks are after things to do,

In fact a spook brought this to you!!!

The treats that came with this small sack,

Are yours to keep, enjoy your snack.

The fun will come when friends like you,

Will copy this and make it two,

We'll all have smiles upon our faces,

No one will know who "BOO"ed who's places!!

Just ONE short day to work your spell,

Keep it secret, hide it well.

Please join the fun, the seasons here.

Just spread these "BOO's" & Halloween cheer.
